Nature’s Pharmacy – the Physic Garden

Physic Garden 2015 Resize

Have you ever thought about how people treated everyday health problems before modern medicine? They turned to nature: plants were used for everything from acne to liver disorders.

A ‘physic garden’ was a natural pharmacy – a garden full of medicinal herbs to cure a range of illnesses and complaints. One has been created in Westgate Gardens, with the help of students from Simon Langton Grammar School for Girls. It is divided into a number of raised beds, with mosaics to show the different parts of the body the plants in them were used for.
